Swimming
How do I book?
When open, booking is through messages on Gosfield Lake Open Swimming fb page, bookings can only be taken from Sunday 12 noon for the following week, if you are new to the lake you will need a safety briefing, which will be done at the beginning of the session.
When are the sessions?
Friday 12.30pm – 1.30pm
Sunday 8.00am – 9.00am, 9.00am – 10.00am
Each sessions is for an hour, if require more, ask.
Can I just turn up?
We like to keep both sessions and parking not too full, therefore we prefer for everyone to have notified us prior to arrival.
What if you haven't responded?
If I have replied to your request, it is either because I am away from my pc. This account is not linked to my phone 🙂 or I do not have a session to offer you at the moment.
Can I bring someone else?
Every swimmer has to be booked in for a session, welcome to ask when making your booking. If I have space I will confirm. Spectators are welcome to use the cafe.
I haven't been before - what do i need ?
Even if you have a wetsuit you will need a safety tow float, this is due to H & S protocol. Wetsuits can be shorties as well as tri suits. All participants have to have one of our swim caps, this is to differentiate you from our water ski buoys.
Do you hire wet suits?
We do not have swim wetsuits, the wetsuits on site are ski suits – not suitable for open swimming.
Can go in and swim/play rather than do laps etc?
No we are not an Open Air Lido, the Water Ski Club has sole use of the lake and we are permitted to swim for these sessions. The swimmers need to be able to complete a clockwise 300m,1200 or 1500m course. Outside of the swim sessions, there is no public access to the lake.
Price
Sessions are £6 per person, our swim caps are £5, at present we have no facility for card payments, so payments are via cash we always have change.
Water Skiing
When are you open?
We are a members ski club; however, we are open to the public Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays where we can take guests, but members do have priority, the rest of the time is private hire or members only.
What happens in a lesson?
A first time lesson consists of a land lesson, where the individual is taught the correct position and advised of the stages of the water ski lesson. The learner starts on the ‘boom’ (pole attached to the side of the boat), then if this is mastered, moves to a short handle attached to the boom. The next stage is behind the boat on the long rope. Each ski session is approximately 15 minutes (and is very tiring - think hanging from a door frame).
What age can a person be?
We suggest individuals be from 8 years old, however the skier must be confident around water.
What equipment will I need?
You will need swimsuit and towel, along with warm clothes for after. If you don’t have a wetsuit, they can be hired on site. Lifejackets and skis will be provided.
Can I have more than one learner?
We can accommodate 4 lessons in an hour.
I am staying on the campsite – can I just turn up to ski?
Unfortunately all lake activities need to be booked, guests or the public are able to book 48 hrs in advance, if you are already onsite, you may enquire at reception as to any availability.
